Setting Default Installation Values

On Linux systems the installers for the various Streaming Integration Platform components read default values from /etc/sysconfig/sip.conf.

If you wish to install everything using default values then you do not need to do anything, as all of the installers will create this file if it does not exist, and will set all of the configurable options to their default values.

The default configuration file looks like this:

#
# Streaming Integration Platform Installation Overrides
#
# The configuration values specified in this file are used only during the
# installation of the following components on this system:
#
#  - Base Environment (message-broker and snapshot-agent)
#  - ISAM Agent
#  - JSON Agent
#  - SQL Agent
#
# Changing these values after initial installation will not have any effect
# unless you uninstall and re-install all of the above components that are
# currently installed on this system.

# This is the user account that services will run as. If the specified user
# does not exist at installation time, it will be created as a service account
# with no login shell and no home directory. If the specified user already
# exists at installation time, it will be used without modification.
#
SVC_USER=sip-service
#
# This is the group that services will run as. If the specified group does not
# exist at installation time, it will be created. If the specified group already
# exists at installation time, it will be used without modification.
#
SVC_GROUP=sip-service
#
# This is the configuration profile that will be used when services start.
#
PROFILE=default
#
# This is the Configuration Server host name or IP address used by services
# at startup. Leave blank to omit the --config-server command line option.
#
CONFIG_SERVER_HOST=
#
# Optional HTTPS service ports.
#
CONFIG_SERVER_PORT=5121
ISAM_AGENT_PORT=5126
SQL_AGENT_PORT=5127
JSON_AGENT_PORT=5128
#
# Base directory for native libraries extracted by .NET single-file services.
DOTNET_BUNDLE_EXTRACT_BASE_DIR=/var/lib/synergex/sip/dotnet-bundle-extract

The SVC_USER and SVC_GROUP** settings define the name and group of the service account that will be used to run the various services. If the user and group specified here do not exist, they will be created during the installation.

The PROFILE setting defines the name of the profile that will be used. A profile is a named set of configuration files, and you will learn more about them later.

The CONFIG_SERVER_HOST setting defines the host name or TCP/IP address of the Streaming Integration Platform Configuration Server in your environment.

When Using Configuration Server

When using Configuration Server you should follow the steps below to manually create the sip.conf file and you should assign a value, either a DNS server name or a TCP/IP address, to the CONFIG_SERVER_HOST variable.

The CONFIG_SERVER_PORT, ISAM_AGENT_PORT, SQL_AGENT_PORT and JSON_AGENT_PORT settings specify the TCP/IP port numbers that each of those servers will operate on, both for their browser-based user interface, and their REST API.

The DOTNET_BUNDLE_EXTRACT_BASE_DIR setting is used internally by the .NET runtime and should always be specified as shown.

You will be using Configuration Server so you must create and customize the configuration file:

Create the Installer Configuration File

  • Copy the following command (all the way through the EOF text):
    sudo tee /etc/sysconfig/sip.conf > /dev/null << 'EOF'
    SVC_USER=sip-service
    SVC_GROUP=sip-service
    PROFILE=default
    CONFIG_SERVER_HOST=sipws
    CONFIG_SERVER_PORT=5121
    ISAM_AGENT_PORT=5126
    SQL_AGENT_PORT=5127
    JSON_AGENT_PORT=5128
    DOTNET_BUNDLE_EXTRACT_BASE_DIR=/var/lib/synergex/sip/dotnet-bundle-extract
    EOF

  • Paste and execute the command in your Linux terminal.

Next you need to set the correct ownership and permissions on the new file:

Execute these commands

sudo chown root:root /etc/sysconfig/sip.conf
sudo chmod 0644 /etc/sysconfig/sip.conf

And finally, a quick check to verify that the file was created correctly:

Execute this command

sudo cat /etc/sysconfig/sip.conf

You should see the same configuration file content that was shown above.
